Droughts generally occur when a region receives consistently below average precipitation. Some droughts can persist for several years and can cause significant damage and harm the local economy. This global phenomenon also has a widespread impact on agriculture, water quality and society at large.

East Africa currently faces its worst drought in decades with significant crops and life stock being destroyed. As a drought persists, the conditions surrounding it gradually worsen and its impact on the local population gradually increases.
